A Calming Place

Hi~~
I hope you are all enjoying the holiday. I decided to put off my usual Sunday chores and do them today. I needed a break from laundry and more laundry so I thought it would be the perfect time for a post about something calming:)
I don't know about all of you, but I love my room. Sadly, I don't get to spend as much time there as I would like, but when I do, I take a deep breath and chill out. I need to remember to do this more often. My room houses a few of my FAVORITE things.
I LOVE this old, chippy blue shutter. And yes, it does sit kind of crooked. I only have one.. I so wish I had two of them. I always feel like it needs to be somewhere in the house where more people can enjoy it too. I haven't found the right space so for now...it's all mine:)
As you may know from many of my posts, I love shells too and I think these look so pretty with the blue shutter in the background.
This piece of furniture is so unique. I love the two drawers at the top. That was the selling point for this piece. The mirror above it is from The Rose Bowl Flea Market. I tried to take a picture without the bed in it, but no can do. My room isn't large.

This is my giant picture wall that I face if I am in my bed. It has so many favorite pictures of my kids and family. They are the first and last things I see each day:)
You may notice the little string that looks like it is coming from the ceiling. Well, that is part of a little TV. It doesn't look pretty, but I have to let the hubby have something. BTW~~ He wants to mount a BIG one to the wall.....my picture wall will be ruined:(( Stay tuned as to what happens. Yikes !
My "sitting " area. I got these two blue chippy chairs and this little table at the RB Flea Market. The chairs were originally bought to go outside, but I loved them too much and wanted to be able to see them all the time. So..here they are.
The print above is special to me!! I bought this print when I was in college and had it in my room. That was a LONG time ago....... It is a picture of France. I love the bike on the front (I like pictures with bikes). I have taken this  print to all the places I have lived and now it is right above my bed and I guess is sort of the head board since I don't have one.
It's certainly not in the best frame (not even glass) , but it is exactly the way it has been for many many years and I don't want anything to change about it. My best friend since I was four (Susie) has the same one in her house.
Anyway, I hope you all have a calm space in your home where you can take a deep breath. We all need to remember to that.
I want to welcome all my new followers and thank everyone for the always nice comments. Doing this blog is another thing that calms me and lets me express myself.

  4. I see why you love your bedroom. The shutter is wonderful because blue is my favorite color, never get tired of it. Love how you brought inside the wrought iron chairs and table. And what a great wall of family photos. Love the frames.

  5. I so need a room to myself right now. I would prefer that it not be my bedroom, even though I LOVE yours. We recently moved to Montana (where we currently rent a small home) from Texas where we sold our renovated historic home. I didn't have a "room of my own" there either. I want a room where I can sit and dream, with a long desk or table to spread things out on while I work on them. I need a place to set my laptop and sewing machine. Having to pack up the sewing machine to make way for dinner doesn't encourage me to pull it out! We're looking for an old farm. Even a barn room that's just mine would suit me fine. I love your blog and photos! Eva - ellavioletantiques.blogspot.com

  21. My calming place is my "studio". I have a bright red sofa facing a cabinet filled with art supplies and little favorites. I sit on the sofa with my laptop or iPad and grade papers or play on the computer. An armoire is my workspace. When my schedule allows, I work there- creating calms me. We all need that special place.
